Twins make additional roster decisions

The Twins, on Saturday, optioned Matt Tolbert to AAA and informed Jacque Jones that he will not make the opening day roster. That leaves the final bench spot to Alexi Casilla.

It doesn't come as much of a surprise that, despite Casilla's underwhelming spring, he got the final nod. Casilla was out of options, meaning he would have had to clear waivers in order for the Twins to keep him. Jones had a far better spring, but hasn't shown much at the big league level in recent seasons and the Twins could freely send him to Rochester.

photo Jones will, however, get an opportunity to visit Target field on April 2nd and 3rd for the Twins' exhibition game against the St. Louis Cardinals. With the team's lack of experienced outfield depth, a call-up during the season is not out of the question for Jones.

In other moves the Twins reassigned Mike Maroth, Ben Revere and Danny Lehmann to minor league camp. Pitchers Kyle Waldrop and Anthony Waldrop will also come to Target field for the exhibition games, but have been informed they will not make the roster.

The Twins, of course, still have one high profile decision to make--who will be the closer? It seems likely that Francisco Liriano will get the fifth spot in the rotation while Brian Duensing will get the last bullpen spot. That leaves the closer role to one of the existing bullpen members such as Jon Rauch, Matt Guerrier and Jesse Crain.

Also undecided is who will be the interim backup catcher until Jose Morales can return. Wilson Ramos and Drew Butera remain in camp.

Looks like the Twins will go with a closer by committee, unless they make a trade.

Twins tickets for sale could take a serious jump in price in the secondary ticket market if they land Cliff Lee - he is a freakin' STUD
